I’m not sure of the exact history, but I believe the Queens bus companies that the B of T took over had a large number of twins. Westchester Street Trans also had a large number of twins although it is technically not in NY City except for a few blocks in the Bronx just past the Mount Vernon border. If you take a good look it isn’t too much of a stretch for the company, after merger with Flxible to come out with its version of the GM fishbowl by slightly enlarging the windows and slanting the side windows a bit forward. |

As a slight drift off topic. the GWB Bus Terminal was supposed to have a Bohack supermarket on the first floor on the Bway side. By the time the terminal had opened, Bohack had gone out of business and A & P opened up in that space. I haven’t been back up to my old hood since A & P went belly up so I don’t know what occupies that space now. |

As I alluded to in another post, it wasn’t too much of a stretch for Flxible (who merged with Twin) to modify Twin’s design by enlarging the windows and slanting the side windows a bit to sort of mimic GM’s fishbowls. Considering the doors on the Twins it wouldn’t surprise me if GM copied the Twin’s design for their fishbowls and Flex/Twin merely reclaimed their own design. |

IIRC, they merged with Packer's (?) around the late 60s, maybe 1970 (definitely before I moved to Illinois temporarily in mid-1971.There used to be a Bohack (or a Packers) not far from where I lived, on Montgomery St west of Bedford Av, across the street from the Ebbetts Field Apartments. My mother and I shopped there once. This is the approximate location: It was a strip mall of sorts, obviously long gone. |

North Shore Bus Company of Queens had Twin Coach buses in green and metallic gray. NYC adopted this as their colors on takeover of North Shore in 1947. NYC bought more Twin Coach buses. |

The Bingham Macks (C50s) were in service till 1960 or so when the first Fishbowls were delivered. The Macks went away along with the St. Louis trolley buses which ran in Brooklyn. Neither the Twins nor the Bingham Macks had a long life in the NYCTA. Fortunately the C49 Macks ran for another decade in Brooklyn, Manhattan (MABSTOA) and Staten Island |

Wasn't Macy's NYC's (and the world's) largest store? Did it only become so when Wanakaker's closed?P.S. I am told my mother almost gave birth to me while shopping at Wanamaker's. The employees were hoping it would happen, because it would be good publicity for the store. But it didn't. She held on for another couple of days and was able to get to a hospital to have me. |

WLS was a member of the ABC radio network (at least back in the 70s, when they were a fairly good Top 40 station). I lived in Urbana, IL (about 125 miles southwest of Chicago) from the summer of 1971 to June 1974 and listened to WLS the whole time. Came in loud and clear unless there was an electrical storm in the area. I'm sure they were putting out some major wattage like many of the AM stations in that era. |

The 5th Ave/Surface C50s were different from the Binghams in that they didn't have the Bingham's sliding windows and the extra wide front door which also changed the window configuration between the doors. The Surface C50s could often be seen on 125th Street before the takeover in 1962 when they were not accepted by the new operating authority. They could be spotted easily at night due to their florescent interior lighting. |

I know the FACCO C-50's were specially excluded from the Condemnation Proceedings because of their poor mechanical condition. But I wondered what happened to they. FACCO did not transfer these Westchester Street. So I am glad to know they ended in storage on 125 St. (probably awaitng scrapping). |

B of T adopted the BMT Brooklyn Bus Corp colors of Red and Yellow in 1940 for its buses. They were changed to Green and Gray when B of T took over North Shore Bus in 1947. |

It was signed as an "11," which was not a bus that ever ran on 5th, and it was a "Transit Information Bus." They must have parked it backwards so that its doors faced the sidewalk. I guess it was the 70s equivalent of the present day "MetroCard Bus" and "MetroCard Van." |
