Albany CDTA (July 2019)

Posted by GojiMet86 on Fri Jun 28 16:10:07 2019

Albany has a large Gillig fleet. Most of them are diesels, some are hybrids, and BusPlus uses the BRT-style Gilligs. There are also some Xcelsior XD60, most of them local (in the 6000s) and one for BusPlus (5518). There are some MCIs, but I missed one by a couple of minutes. Yankee Trails has its own fleet, I guess they also do commuter service. I spotted no LFS, which are being retired, though I did see them last time I went up.

Nice to see my (current) hometown here... great shots!

If you want to photo the MCI fleet, they lay up midday in the Macy's north side parking lot at Crossgates Mall:

New Flyer is big company, at some point they stopped making the older style Buses that Septa had, they had the standard flat ,front. Then came the restyle (smiley) front with our hybrids. Now all you see from New Flyer Is the Xcelsior model.

The Albany pictures in the OP made me think how dominate the Xcelsior model is many agencies.

This is a very nice collection of photographs. The old timer boarding bus 4163 must be the Tunnelrat.

Is the smiley front end an imitation of Opus Optima buses ?

That could be the start of it! I love the overall exterior styling of the Xcelsiors. I have an HO model of a Septa Xcelsior.

That was bus model I purchased from the Septa store site, available to everybody until they ran out. Corgi # 87-0129.
