They look just like the buses they are replacing, though different back end vent arrangement. Suburban Transit has a lot too. They are much quieter, and their engines don't make a loud gutteral sound down-shifting as they slow to a stop. |

Glad to see *someone* is keeping a good design / product line going! The D series is the best looking coach-type bus still made! |

I also prefer the corrugated aluminum siding. More sturdy.I made the drawings for semi-trailers and did some design, and mentioned to one of the engineers that I liked the corrugated side sheets we offered on some of our units, they looked strong. He told me in away they are, but the corrugations should be running vertically to act like side posts to really offer strength. That always stuck in my mind. |

It is listed as stainless in the options section of the MCI brochure, but of course an agency could have spec'd a different material especially in the quantities they buy. |

DeCamp does since they moved to the basement about a year and a half ago. The others, it depends on if they are diverted out of the tunnel or are accessing the Port from a remote lot. |

All I know is that DeCamp uses the 40th Street entrance between 9th and 10th frequently, and the Jitneys uses this entrance as well, along with Peter Pan and Martz. |

Hypothetically they can, but no in reality. They would get a pretty hefty fine. The terminal that operates the X23 and 24 (Perth Amboy) is fairly strict on what equipment goes on what route for that reason. |

So it would appear private carriers were allowed to select the paintable aluminum lower bodysides on their MCIs instead of NJT's preferred stainless steel. Maybe Coach USA and DeCamp opted for the stainless to visually separate the state buses from their own, but I'd follow Academy's lead - if I can have a more appearance-uniform fleet, that's better for my company's image. |

NJT just got almost 200 new coaches (CNG and hybrid). The privates were also in the first batch last time - DeCamp and Coach USA got their 8400s the same time NJT was getting their 7500s - so their buses were just as old.As for the replaced buses, they will likely be stored and prepped for auction or a mass sale like last time (ABC handled the sale of the Eagle 20s and MCI MC-9s). |
