36th Street Yard

I was reading an article which was talking about 1980s subway images. The site had a link to a slideshow on nycsubway.org. On one image, there is the 36th Street yard and in the background, I can see many red Classics. Are these Metro Apple buses at Gleason or something else?

Any input appreciated.

Those Classic buses look like Triboro Coach's buses.

I agree. Does anyone know why so many of them are there? The TCC yard is a borough away. Unless they're on private property abutting the yard awaiting delivery to Jackson Heights.

Thank you for telling us that fact. It only deepens them mystery. PBL buses at that time were given to them by the NYCDOT. Perhaps the MTA allowed them to be there until the "acceptance testing" was successfully completed and then sent to Jackson Heights.

Were they delivered by rail?

Maybe NYCT inspected and tested the buses before entering service on behalf of the NYC DOT which is not equipped to perform such tests.
