For one, they've gotta be in a massive financial hole. I'm sure they can get awarded some sort of financial compensation, but who knows how much it'll cover. Also, their former location is now signed up for Lucky Star (and there's also a storefront adjacent to that which says Lucky Star), but I wonder if that's just a lease from Fung Wah to help pay the rent. |

As a former O.T.R. motorcoach driver (1983-1987 P/T, 1987-2000 F/T, 2000-2006 driver/manager) I observed many bus operators and their drivers throughout the northeast. I have nothing positive to say about the curbside "Chinatown" buses. I avoided them on the road whenever possible. Excessive speeding the norm. Equipment appeared poorly maintained. Drivers observed having great difficulty with conversational English (at rest stops, destinations, etc.). Just my opinion from the driver's seat. |

While I realize some peopnle have no choice or desire not go cheap,Judge Milan (sp?) on People's Court always says that cheap always becomes expensive. You get what you pay for. For me, the extra fee represents better service, better amenities, better safety as well as an inexpensive life insurance premium. |

I agree with you overall, but if they can prove that they can operate safely then there is no reason for DOT to block them. Who did you drive for? |

Oh boy...well let's see where they end up storing their buses now. One Stop just expanded the hell out of their bus parking facilities over by Ikea. |

(need 2 weeks to resume operations) Re: Looks Like Fung Wah's Coming Back |

Fung Wah, the cut-rate bus company that provided service between Boston and New York and had its federal license revoked in March 2013 for safety violations, has been granted permission to resume operations. In a statement, the company said it had reached an agreement with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which regulates interstate bus travel, in November. A check of the regulator’s website shows that the company is authorized to carry passengers. Barry Lewis, a consultant to Fung Wah, said the company would need “at least two weeks” to resume operations. “We are in the process of working with federal, state and local authorities to demonstrate that a new page has been turned,” said Pei Lin Liang, the president of Fung Wah Bus Transportation, Inc., in a statement. “We understand that the bar is high for our company and we are excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate that we can operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.” In 2013, Fung Wah was one of two bus companies that had its license revoked by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration after the company refused to turn over its safety records and had its buses deemed unsafe. That fall, both Fung Wah and Lucky Star Bus, another low-cost carrier, said they had upgraded their fleets and planned to resume service shortly. But negotiations dragged on. Although Lucky Star has resumed its Chinatown-to-Chinatown bus service, Fung Wah said it was getting short shrift from regulators. Earlier this year, it posted a letter to its website, which is still posted, saying regulators had given the company a “death sentence” that had cost the company more than $3 million. On Tuesday, however, the company changed its tune. “We are pleased with the progress we have made over the last year,” said Lewis, the chief executive of United States Transportation Funding, Inc. Lewis said his company would be handling operations for Fung Wah, including hiring new drivers, bringing in a third party to conduct comprehensive bus inspections, unveiling an e-ticketing system for its website, and handling marketing efforts. Lewis declined to comment about whether Fung Wah was considering changing its name. Representatives from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration could not immediately be reached for comment. http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2014/12/17/fung-wah-buses-get-federal-approval-return-road/cVHZYM1L9JPR9fJPPaF3DJ/story.html Looks like they are back :) Competition again on NY-BOS line |

Great looking old LeMirages with a nice paint scheme. I was sad to see HJ take them over, but I guess the money situation was what it was. Can't imagine driving that though, dealing with the LIE west of 40 is hell. |
