I think "minutes away" is too difficult to predict on New York City roads. If the bus catches all greens and doesn't make any stops, that four minutes to arrival will cause you to miss the bus. |

You shouldn't try to cut it that close anyway. Buses are not supposed to run early. If anything the time projections will be optimistic so you will have to wait one or two minutes more. Still better than mies. |

You should still allow five minutes. That would be reasonable. Thinking you can arrive one or two minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive is a little ridiculous. No one does that with railroads or planes, and they shouldn't expect it with buses. |

Well, there's a limit to how close is realistically possible. Even under ideal conditions (buses are evenly spaced, no overcrowding, no wheelchairs, etc), there's still some variance from the drivers themselves. If mosr drivers miss a certain traffic light, but a particular driver makes it, that could easily be your minute or two right there.I mean, for that matter, it could work the other way as well. The driver's been on schedule the whole time, but they miss a traffic light, and now they're a minute or two behind what BusTime expected. |

That's why we have BusTime...so you don't need to get there early and can cut it very close. You don't seem to understand this concept. Heck, even before BusTime I didn't arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early! That's crazy! My buses never ran that early, AFAIK. |

I think there are quite reasonable ways to deal with those issues! It's all in the programming. It uses many more variables than just the timetable to predict the actual arrival time. |
