Posted by Gold_12TH on Thu Sep 27 20:10:49 2012 Its Casey Stengel 6853 BBQ bus  An MTA bus was partially consumed by flames this morning on the Van Wyck Expressway near exit 11 in Queens. An FDNY spokesman says the blaze erupted at approximately 7 a.m., and five units responded to the fire, which was quickly extinguished. Fortunately there were no injuries, but traffic on the highway was seriously backed up during the morning rush. An MTA spokesman confirms it was a city bus, and tells us there were no passengers on board. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation. ---Gothamist.com |

Yeah, this doesn't look good for MTA's Orion 7 hybrids. Another reason why they're converting one and possibly lots more into diesel. So far, I haven't heard to many problems of WMATA's New Flyer hybrids of DE40LF, DE40LFR and the Xcelsior hybrids. Nor I haven't heard CTA's (Chicago) DE60LF artics of any problems. You know they use those hybrid artics on some of the busy express lines in Chicago. |

Most engine compartment fires are due to faulty wiring, worn cabling or other invasive/corrosive/defective/damaged electrical components.It's happened to me once. |

No such thing as a "random bus fire". And the fire suppression system will only work when there's an continuous closed circuit. An electrical fire can, and does interfere with it. |

All the money they'd have to spend.........it's a lot of buses...........the original ones (OG's) are just about at the half way point in their 12 year service life.........by the time the evaluation is completed it will be another year or 2, then to do them all........It won't be worth it. Just deal with them and get rid of them when they're 12 years old. |
