Friday Night and Saturday a Farewell to the GM New Look charter was held in Toronto. We had 2 buses each day and Friday consisted of a evening portion and Saturday was a daytime portion. Only 15 of these buses remain and the pending delivery of 60 Orion VII buses (8335-8394) is expected to retire these buses by the end of the year. The last non-accessible route in the system, 52 Lawrence West, is also to become accessible in January 2012. The word is the last New Look service will be in December before the Christmas break.

Here are a few photos from the event:

Great photos! Hope to get up there shortly before it's too late. Are any of these buses for sale?

I took my farewell ride on a Toronto fishbowl in August, 2010.

Hopefully someone up there will purchase one.

I don't believe so. If I should purchase one, I'll try and also get the proper roll signs for it.

They were delivered as 8000-series buses. They got digital signs mid-life.

For what it's worth, I've always thought the same thing about the push rear doors on NYC's RTS buses - the proper RTS design was the plug doors that are flush with the side of the body.

Beautiful photos. I was lucky enough to ride 2265 back in May and will miss those buses. Any busfans with passports need to hit up Calgary and Saskatoon before 2013 as they will be the last stand of the GMs.

How long did these buses last?

They were built in 1982-83, completely rebuilt from 2000-2002, and less extensively refurbished in 2009.

While those buses were beautiful looking and fun to ride, I would love to see them save one or more in the classic red and cream paint scheme with the cloth roll signs (front and side). Like this:

Excellent photos. Nice to see that 2316 is still running - that was the final TTC New Look bus I rode on during my last trip to the GTA three years ago.

Toronto without the GM New Look buses just isn't going to be the same - sort of like London without its Routemasters (or New York City without RTS's in a few years).

Those buses have (ugh) flip dot signs. You'll need a complete sign box mechanism to make them look real.

Thank you. Yes, I know. I have a complete box from Green Lines, although it might have to be reworked.
