Nope, Ride-On never had 40 foot Phantoms. I imagine the Johns Hopkins Gillig may have come from Foothill Transit, which had such headlights. A lot of those buses seem to have been sold elsewhere as well, such as to West Chester for Krapf's Coach's Rt A service. |

Many Bay Area (San Francisco-Oakland area) transit agencies has the single headlight Gilligs in their Fleet. AC Transit has two series (160-165{Dumbarton express}, 805-808{Ex SamTrans buses}). Union City Transit has SHL Gilligs except 632 which has the regular double headlight setup. Also County Connection(Concord),Wheels(Livermore), Westcat(Pinole), Tri-Delta(Antioch), Sam-trans(San Mateo), and VTA(San Jose)has a lot of the Single Headlight buses. I prefer the double Headlights myself. Many transit agencies in Southern California still use the SHL Gilligs. But I believe Foothill retired all their 1000 series SHL Gilligs like the one up above. |
