There was another a few weeks back as well.Newsday article: Hempstead Turnpike was closed in both directions in West Hempstead for nearly an hour Tuesday afternoon (6-14) after an SUV overturned and careened into the side of an MTA bus. The accident occurred just west of Nassau Boulevard; the driver of the SUV and the passengers on the bus were not reported injured. Police were investigating the incident. Well at least there were no passengers on board at the time.I was told once that someone had said that if one of Suffolk Transit's Orion VII's was in a accident like their Orion V 9937 had a few years ago that people could have been hurt. I thought that the person was being over dramatic, but I was wrong. |

Because of the age, I'll bet the insurance dept. orders it fixed. I've seen alot worse than that and they were fixed and returned to service. |

I have witnesses and have made diagrams of the intersection showing distances from building edge to curb, etc. And I have THEIR schedule showing the speed THEY want me to drive THEIR bus.Ace in the hole: told the accident investigator that if they uphold the charge, I want a copy of the verdict so I can give it to the red light runners insurance company, showing that MY company is blaming ME for the accident! Wouldn't THAT be nice for him??? |

I know that you shouldn't need a lawyer...that would be the situation in a perfect world...but in the real world, transit agencies exist to intimidate and fuck with their front line employees, and they need to be put in their place once in a while...There was a case at NJ Transit where they attempted to blame an employee for a situation that clearly was not his fault, and he hired a lawyer and not only got his job back, but won big money (don't recall the exact amount) for the unnecessary bullshit they put him through... |

SEPTA's 5414 was in a similar accident when it wa new...and I think with even more damage than that...and it's in service today. It'll take a while, but that LI Bus can run again. The question is...who will make sure it gets fixed if it takes longer than 6 months? |
