Because they do not include the PowerPoint presentations in the PDF.

You have to watch the boring video at that link for May 2010 CPOC: http://mta.info/mta/webcasts/archive.htm

Personally I loved them but trying to get the operators to take them was hard, especially the younger operators who never operated them.
Now that we are 100% hybrid I'm starting to get whiners who don't want the 6300/6400's cause they are slow.
I tell them no more BS, we are 100% hybrid!

Did the JG O5s also receive a complete overhaul/repaint/tank replacement/powertrain replacement in 2003? They could technically go another 5 years based on the tanks...if the bus bodies hold up, as all of the diesels from the same time bought by the MTA are retired.

From the later batch in that (the higher 500-series diesels), the MTA only got just under 14 years from those buses...the 1990 TMCs went almost 20.

Thank you, I'm just telling it like I see it...it's people like DaRidgewoodBusBuff that, not to undermine his intelligence or think lesser of him, but needs to see things from other perspectives and learn to accept what he cannot change... he surely is entitled to his opinion about FP and getting hand-me-downs, but somebody has to have them, and LGA, 126, WF, and at one time YUK, have been in that situation many a time before.

It is what it is...

Hold on---the Bx5 was out of Walnut (despite the north end being closer to Gun Hill than the southern end to Walnut) until Walnut closed (after 1990)?

Was the route ever out of Coliseum before that garage closed?

I just realized an error in that post, I meant to say Manhattan, not Manhattanville...

I spotted #9221 sitting at 126th/Lexington, and I smiled (even though it was delegated to the M35), good to see it again, especially out of 126th, where to my recollection that particular bus ORIGINATED (I think 126th had 9187-9226 back in 1996)...

When I was living in The Bronx, Walnut had the following:

Bx4, Bx5, Bx6, Bx11, Bx15, Bx17, Bx19, Bx21, Bx27, Bx32, Bx35, Bx36

When Walnut closed, which was around 1996-1997, the Bx5 was transferred to GH.

I take back what I said about some of the 1996 Novas. The 9200s at UP are fine last time I was n their routes. 9075-9249 came out in the later part of 1996 while the rest came earlier. That set should get kept around at least.

Still, my bashing of FP will never stop, maybe until their next bus order comes in, if ever. Until it learns to get better, and stop getting the oldest hand-me-downs.

Its not the hand-me-downs themselves but the disproportion of the whole system overall, if everywhere had a similar average age, it wouldn't better me.

Well, that's why buses are moving around at such a fast rate, because as all these new buses are coming in, they have to find ways to balance out the average fleet age. There are some garages that, though FP has a high AFA, have a much higher AFA than even FP does...I mean, Grand Avenue before the O7s came in, had buses from 1990-1993 still running! All while FP received all those O7 OGs, which at one point made up half the garage.

Majority of the MTA buses that were repower and overhaul by Blitz Bus & Truck now call Bus & Truck of Chicago.

JG's Orion V CNG really was an extensive overhaul and probably the bodies have been held up really well long with no rust expose exterior side unlike their sister counterpart.

Sometimes I move buses around the building and I have found that the front ends of the hybrids seem loose and wobbly. Never had that with a RTS.
I always new that the Orion products diesal or hybrid would never come close to the records the RTS set in total years in service.

Since the MTA is planning to refurbish or is currently to 1999 NOVABUS RTS then maybe they should repower them with Cummins ISL engine as well.

– MUCH CHEAPER then diesel electric hybrid bus ($175,000+ price difference per bus); plus you do not need to change/replace batteries, for lead acid is 2 to 3 years and lithium-ion is about 6 years, added weight with the hybrid components, higher maintenance cost. What wonderful savings!!!!

I wonder if SEPTA and WMATA will ever figure this out. SEPTA plans to have a 100% hybrid bus fleet, and WMATA is close on its heels.

Very interesting information! Thanks for sharing this.

Oh yes, the politics must come into play quite a bit with WMATA's bus purchases. I think they were still planning on expanding their CNG program though...the new depot that's replacing the Southeastern Garage is supposed to have CNG capabilities if I'm not completely mistaken.

More CNG buses would be good for WMATA...I think Bladensburg has the capacity for more of these buses.

Politics come in less for WMATA bus purchases than you'd think, if it did they definitely wouldn't have bought LFA's for the additional cost versus an LFR. The only time it came into question with a purchase was with the Orion II's and that was because D(C)DOT owned them and leased them to WMATA.

Jurisdictions declining to participate in certain orders/programs is more common. Then-governor Ehrlich getting WMATA to cancel plans to make Montgomery a CNG division and DC/MD opting out of the 9800-series Flxible order due to funds are the two that come to mind.

I dunno...aren't the examples that you provided showing how political the orders are. Governor Ehrlich said he doesn't want Montgomery to do CNG and instead go with Clean Diesels and hybrids...which is intriguing.

The LFA doesn't surprise me. DC did, after all, build an extravagant Metrorail system when it would have been "cheaper" to build and run a typical subway. Heck they didn't even want to call it the subway because it had a bad connotation, showing dirt, grime, crime, etc.

The BRT-styled buses (and the new paint scheme) at WMATA came along because the old GM, Catoe liked "buses with some curves". While the new paint schemem looks good, I think it and the extra cost for BRT styling is a big waste of money.
