Saturday was the 34th annual Metro Bus Roadeo. It was held behind the Santa Anita Racetrack in the city of Arcadia. Hot as molasses outside with temperatures in the triple digits.

I met up with a couple of other enthusiasts at LA Union Station. We took MTA Bus # 79. We got off 1 stop to soon and had to endure a long walk. After walking halfway.

We eventually get there...

-Maintenance Competition was earlier in the day

-Bus Operators was finishing up. 35 operators competed & the winner will represent Metro at the 2010 Intl Bus Roadeo in Cleveland.

-Lots of free food, Historic Cars, and buses on display. Scott Richards brought # 3015 ... which is a 1967 GMC "NewLook" SDM5302. Very fast bus with a DD8V71 engine and Allison VS2-8 transmission.
Danny Elliot from Transit Systems also brought out Ex-LACMTA # 1189, which is a 1987 Neoplan AN440/3 with a DDEC Reliabilt 6V92 engine and Allison V731 transmission.

Metro also brought out the following buses

- NABI 45C.02 LFW # 8212
- NABI 42.01 BRTH # 4200
- NABI 60.01 BRT
- and a few other stuff in which I hope other people will post on here.

Great pics Eddie. I think for awhile, the MTA Roadeo bus was numbered 144. I used to see it at the CMF/RRC (and maybe at Division 2 when they were still using that yard for bus storage, before it became fully active at the June 1992 shakeup.) When it was 5090, it spent it's last days (at least from fall of 1976 on) at West Hollywood Division 7. It also had batwings for some of that time, dunno if they were removed before it retired. Also, don't know if it was one of the several pre-1967 buses kept in the reserve fleet after most of the older ones were retired in 1980 and 1981 with the arrival of a total of 1,170 Grumman Flxible 870s and GMC RTS-04s. The reserve buses ran through the 1984 Summer Olympics, then went away for good, along with some of the 1967 Flxibles (6100-6200s), which up until then were still revenue-active.
