After reading the article, I honestly think this could happen since New Haven is a big college town and affordable travel options for students tight on money is a great thing! However this can affect how Metro North ridership out of New Haven as well b/c there will be cases where Bolt will be cheaper then MNRR! Lets see how this plays out! |

Are they clamoring specifically for BoltBus only and not Megabus (considering Megabus pulls out of Hartford next week)? I could see either one working if there is a stop not too far off the highway. |

From the message board threads I have been reading prior to the media blitz on the movement three days ago, they are specifically going for BoltBus because of the product itself being a "step-above" other services (i.e. the leather seats, wi-fi, plug-ins) - the big draw though is the fact that they allow you to transport bikes (if space is available) at no charge and they have tied it in to the whole "green" movement.Considering what Mega has donw in the last several weeks with the whole Hartford/Dattco divorce situation, I think they are focusing now on competing as an express service without the feeder... |

The fastest way to get BoltBus...is to bring Megabus in there!Running I-95 all the way is going to make the schedule erratic. However, it could work. That is something I would do if they were serious. |

After the recent extension of the Baltimore runs to Greenbelt giving them a backup into DC, I'm wondering if it might be in Bolt's best interest to have a primary express run and a secondary Boston->Providence->New Haven->NYC run. Maybe even end those runs at Back Bay mainly to be a thorn in Megabus' side. |

The poodle is too low grade...unless they use the new blue coaches. The new image and the Prevosts are an obvious attempt to re-cast the brand. It seems to be working here in the Northeast, but they also have the benefit of Bolt, Megabus and others helping to change the public's perception of bus travel. Outside of this region, Greyhound still has a lot of work to do to improve its image. |

That was a factor, but it was their intention from the beginning to serve a secondary market to DC - it's just that the legality of it all prevented it from occurring right away. Then again the U. Maryland and Towson students create a guaranteed market for Greenbelt, so the risk is minimal... |

That wouldn't make much sense for Dattco to become a contractor of Bolt - they tend to keep everything in house because of the support system and backbones they have with PPB and GLI aside from the fact that they have infrastructure in place.I don't believe Bolt would just pursue a NY-NH run...it would have to be interlined somehow... |

It would be a bad idea to add stops on the Boston runs unless their counts are down on the expresses. You take Dattco as a contractor or you potentially fight Dattco. What if Dattco didn't sign a non-compete? They are not a small company and they want these guys working. |

From what I have heard their Boston skeds are pulling their weight very good - I happen to agree with you on it being a bad idea to add a stop on the Boston line, particularly in the case of where they would find additional capacity on Fridays and Sundays (most buses are sold out on a weekly basis). On the Dattco situation, yes there may be a problem with finding work for them but I've found Dattco to be resourceful when it comes to "seeking-out" contracts through their ties in CT. Since many of those drivers are Boston-based, I would expect them to compete more with PPB Boston with their contracts and charters than I would with line-runs. If they didn't sign a non-compete, which part of a Bolt operation into New Haven would be affected, any location within the state that parallels from the contract or just Hartford - I don't understand if its the case for the entire state... |

I wonder if some of their runs could be tied in with #20 express runs between Hartford and New Haven, or CT Transit Route S local bus service from New Haven to Madison and Old Saybrook (i.e., a bus does an express run from NYC to New Haven, deadheads to the train station, and then does a local round trip on the S).CT Transit Route S is operated by DATTCO using MCIs (local fare is charged). |

It's not that they are short on the DD's, it's more of the fact that the schedule increased for the Fall to better compete with Bolt and as a result Dattco did not receive any more DD's to cover the skeds - Coach USA only gave them enough to run the summer schedule w/o spares...It could also be the case of Mega beginning to repo' the DD's and bring them back into the regular NE fold, as Dattco's relationship with Mega is slowly, but surely coming to an end. |
