Yeah, Toronto had MAJOR problems with the buses with the old battery pack so they retrofitted Litium-Ion battery packs on all Orion Hybrids (OG and NG) that had the original lead-acid batteries. They're hoping that this will solve the problems they had with the buses stalling and the batteries dying... ...aka the TTC almost learned the hard way that series-hybrid buses aren't for them (a lot of the routes travel on long stretches without braking which means no regenerative braking/charging which means dead batteries...). I doubt a new battery pack will solve ALL their problems, but at least the have the option to change all new orders into Diesel Orion VII NGs just in case. They will already be receiving Diesel Orion VII NGs as soon as the current Hybrid order is done. Only time will tell if the Lithium-Ion battery packs will keep Toronto's Hybrids on the streets... |

Yep, TTC is retrofitting their first generation Orion VIIs with the new battery packs, doing the buses with lead acid batteries that failed within months after they got them FIRST, then doing the rest over time. Orion outsourced that operation due to the lack of space in their facilities (what, with brand new NextGens for TTC and NYCT flying off the production lines and all), and so far about 20 buses in the 1000s and 1100s, mainly the 1100s, have been refitted... |

Yeah, they look as if they hit a low bridge. They have the brackets that held the old battery pack in place still attached, so it looks like tangled metal with a new battery pack resting in the middle. |

I didn't go to that part of the GO Transit service area, regretably, but I will next time...and the thing is, that's the area I really wanted to go to, but we didn't have enough time for that...and my party had other intentions, such as the 6v92 Orion Vs and the Fishbowls running for the TTC. |

Oh, yea, in fact, I was one of the first people to spot and shoot and then post photos of them...Interesting fact: the TTC had a few OG Orion VIIs with that semi-professional job like our Li-ion O7s...but they have since been refitted with what you see in that photo of 1146. |
