Today was my first free day since I arrived in the DC area for a business trip last Sunday. I decided to do some busfanning (hoping to see the new DE42LFAs and 60BRTs). I got very lucky with the DE42LFAs (on several routes it seemed like every bus or every other bus was a DE42LFA) but I struck out with the 60BRTs (Quick question: do they operate on the weekends? (I was at the Maryland Avenue station and I let several U8s go by and they were all C40LFs)). Anyways, enjoy!

Nice photos in both threads.

Another weekend, another chance for WMATA to send out its express buses wherever it feels like...

I was going to mention that. It didn't seem like there was any rhyme or reason to where the express buses were going. I do REALLY like the DE42LFAs though (although I do question whether or not the extra styling is really necessary for regular old local routes, I am sure they could've gotten DE42LFRs for a bit less per bus).

Also, thanks!

Do the 60BRTs run on weekends at all?

And why do that matter about buses painted in the "Express" paint job going out doing local service?

Great WMATA photography, thanks for sharing.

About the NF-DE37LFA's, thought it would only be 6301 to 6320, and you have a picture of 6387, was there an option exercised by WMATA?

Has WMATA received their NF-D62LFA's numbered 6562-6584?

Thanks;

It defeats the whole concept of 'branding' buses if customers see any bus on any route.

6387 is a 42' bus. It was originally at Montgomery for testing, but ended up at Western thanks to a bizarre case where New Flyer governed the buses too low which is delaying their rollout to the Maryland garages.

Saturdays on the U8, but that route is not a good fanning route as it's far from downtown and goes through some of DC's roughest parts.

Might be better to wait until August when the Benning Road paving is done and the 60BRT's finally end up on where they were intended: the X2.

I am correct then, there is only 20 NF-DE37LFA's 2009 6301-6320, since 6387 is a NF-DE42LFA, is this bus the only one in its model year and series?

Thanks;

Those BRT Flyers are GROSSLY overbuilt. A Simpler DE41LFR would have sufficed. WMATA got taken for a ride on these new buses.

Nice photos, I really like the ones of the DE42LFA, LFR and the VII CNG. Btw does the WAMTA Orion VII CNG sound the same as the NYCT VII CNG's?

Yes, most likely because many of the "express" routes haven't been created yet, but I don't have much faith that they will do better once the routes do exist.

Thanks. I really haven't spent too much time around NYCT Orion VII CNGs to know if WMATA's sound like theirs or not. WMATA has either a Cummins C Gas Plus / Voith powertrain or a John Deere 6081 CNG / Voith powertrain (depending on the bus).
