Newer Buses in New Britain, CT

Encouraged by the photos Joe C. posted here recently, I made a brief stop in downtown New Britain, CT, yesterday, and found two examples of newer equipment in service at the 2:00 PM pulse. The first example is, to my knowledge, one of five buses delivered new to CT Transit last year. I believe 801-802 went to Hartford, while SEAT got its own 801-802. 803 was the only bus to go to New Britain (I assume NBT, not Dattco, has it.) The second example, in service on the F route, shows how bad NBT's 1996 RTS's must be. I did not see a single NBT RTS at the 2:00 PM pulse. There was a Dattco RTS that looked simply horrible.

CT Transit (New Britain) 803

NBT 150

Enjoy!

When I was in New Britain last month, NBT was using a sister GMC cutaway, 152, in transit service. They also had a IC RE "activity bus" (school bus chassis with motorcoach style seats) in transit service that day. The New Britain RTS are in rough shape, I don't know how RTS DATTCO has. DATTCO shares the 41 Hartford/New Britain route with CT Transit.

I believe DATTCO originally received 6 (C150-C155). When I took the photos, I also caught C150 and C152, and recollect seeing a third whose number I don't remember. In addition to using two buses on the 41 (former P route), DATTCO runs two local New Britain routes and one rush-hour express bus, so it seems like they need 5 out of 6 buses for service each weekday. For the 41, I believe DATTCO supplies one of the three all-day buses, plus one rush-hour bus.

Sid, according to the CT Transit website, DATTCO does indeed operate 2 of the New Britain local routes, South St. & East St. What express bus route does DATTCO run in New Britain? New Britain Transportation operates the rest of the New Britain routes.

When I was in New Britain on President's Day, I saw & photographed C152 & C155 at the Bank St. pulse area, C152 in sadder shape than C155. Also DATTCO had 9319, a New Flyer D40HF from CT Transit's reserve fleet pull in from Hartford on the 41 and loading for a return trip. I did read either here or elsewhere previously that both DATTCO & New Britain Trans. received some buses from CT Transit's reserve fleet, plus it was mentioned here previously that some ex-HART Danbury RTS were purchased for New Britain service, did they all go to NBT or did DATTCO also get some of them?

[What express bus route does DATTCO run in New Britain?]

Dattco used to have an express bus between downtown New Britain and downtown Hartford, via South Main Street in West Hartford. There were two runs in the AM rush, leaving the New Britain pulse at 7:00 am and 8:00 am, and one return run in the PM rush, leaving downtown Hartford at 4:30 pm. I can't find it on either Dattco's site or the CT Transit site, so it may not exist any more. Timetables for this route were never well publicized or available.
