Palmtran to Start Service with Hybrids |

Posted by Sid from NJ on Fri Feb 13 15:52:01 2009 Palmtran, in the West Palm Beach, Florida, area, will be introducing three new Gillig BRT hybrid buses (#0808-0810) into service, probably as early as next week. Below you will find a photo I took while vacationing in Florida earlier this week. The paint scheme looks similar to the 8 Gillig BRT's already in the fleet (#0613-0620). Enjoy!

[They already did this 2 years ago and I was on it I have the photo shown here]I got it from a reliable Palmtran source that 0808-0810 are the first hybrid buses Palmtran will have in regular service. I couldn't find a fleet number on your photo, so I suspect it is either one of the 8 diesels it received of the Gillig BRT model (0613-0620) or it was a demo. |

This particular bus in your photo (and your video that you posted) is not a hybrid but just a plain diesel bus. The bus in your video is 0620 so perhaps the photo is of the same bus? If so, it's 0620---a diesel model. |

Uhh, yea...like, dude, that's a diesel bus...not a hybrid. All Gillig low floor hybrids have a rooftop battery back, and the bus in the photo CLEARLY does not have any rooftop battery pack in the rear, so hence, it is a diesel.--Dr. C |

Once again, the photo CLEARLY shows that the bus is a DIESEL ---not a HYBRID. If Palm Tran told you that buses like 0620 was a hybrid, they told you wrong---unless they said they was going to get hybrids in the near future.One does not have to live in West Palm Beach to know what type of bus they're looking at when somebody posts a photo and a video of it. The video you clearly posted shows Gillig BRT low floor bus 0620 and that bus is a DIESEL---not a hybrid. Dr. Casca said it best so on that note, you have got to look at the photo AND the video YOU posted before making your decision final. PLEASE look at the video of 0620 and the photo Sid from NJ posted. Compare what you see---mind you. If there's NO battery pack on top of a Gillig low floor bus, it's a DIESEL!!!!!! |

Ummm, I don't have to live in West Palm Beach to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid bus...just like you don't have to live in Florida to know what an orange looks or tastes like...And I don't have to talk to PalmTran for anything, because different people who work for PalmTran may or may not have any idea as to the technicalities like we do about buses, what's a hybrid or not, what's a Gillig or a New Flyer, or what's a GFI or a Duncan farebox. I'm telling you again and for the last time, nicely...those 0600-series Gilligs are diesels, the 0800s in Sid's post are in fact the hybrids...case NOW closed. --Dr. C |

People make mistakes here. The trick is to listen to those correcting you, particularly if they give good reasons for their positions. [i used live there and rode palm tran and they said it is hybird when they had that bus on the road. tell that to palm tran not me.] Curiously, the main reason I went to the Palmtran garage last Monday was because a Palmtran driver had told me that Palmtran had just received an articulated bus, which proved to be dead wrong. I guess it was the hybrids he was referring to. [case closed] 0808-0810 are the first hybrids Palmtran will be putting into service. What you rode and photographed was definitely a diesel bus. |

You don't have to live in WPB to know about Gillig Buses. Look around the country, man; they're everywhere. My city runs a ton of brand-new Gillig BRT hybrids, and I can say for a fact that the first photo was a hybrid, while the ones you've posted are simply diesel.Maybe you're confusing the rear roof fairing on a diesel BRT model (which you posted video of) with those on hybrid models. Take a second look - the hybrid ones are much chunkier and larger, because they have to cover the hybrid battery packs. |
