Passing thru Pelham Bay today and here's ex NYC Bus 304, like better than new, labeled for MTA Bus. The b/o was chatting with the dispatcher in the car while the sign flashed "call police. emergency". The bus was the taken to where the QBx1 generally lays over, near the park. It was too cold to see if it would go into service on the QBx.
What gives at College Point?

Which other of fleet numbers of these series ORION-V has been transferred to MTA-BUS?

Thanks;

That's interesting; that fleet is currently being replaced and a number of units around it have been scrapped without being accident losses.

Now that wouldn't be a surprise anymore; I would probably expect 25 to head to MTA Bus.

Orion 05.501 #6022 is at College Point? I think you mean Orion 05.501 #6066. Orion 05.501 #6022 is at Casey Stengel. Did you see that bus at College Point?

Also, Orion 05.501 #257 and Orion 05.501 #305 have "MTA Bus" on them. Orion 05.501 #205 is next!

Now "RUMOR" has it that Orion 05.501 CNG #9845 and Orion 05.501 CNG #9862 are at West Farms. #9845 was on the Bx31 and #9862 was on the Bx8. Can ANYBODY confirm that?

That would be odd to say the least, for a former private line bus to now be at NYC Transit.

It would probably still be marked MTA Bus.

Of course unless there is proof, it will remain a rumor. Having said that, Joseph Smith has already expressed his interest in fleet shuffling and mix matching. The buses are good enough!

Uh-oh I smell ex-Spring Cree, ex-Queens Surface, and ex-Triboro CNGs coming to JG in the near future. . .perhaps that's how they'll start phasing out 317 and 581-610?

I thought it made sense too if they truly intregrated the fleets, but I wasn't holding my breath. While we've seen numerous TA buses go to MTAB (and some even come back), I have to wonder if it's a coincidence that no former PBL buses have come over to NYCTA.

I don't smell such a thing. The PBL Orion Vs are decent buses and it is unlikely MTA Bus coughs them up for surplus NYCT buses. I could see LIB equipment coming to JG and WF for a short stay if they decide to rehab the buses.

However...just one problem: The PBL O5s have never had their CNG fuel tanks replaced. That is why the CNG RTSs were retired ahead of the 1990 TMCs; those tanks can only go 12-13 years tops.

I predict that the CNG O5s at MTA Bus will be going ahead of older buses.

By that, I'm expecting that the 105 hybrids for MTA Bus (if it is not in fact now 130) will actually be a partial replacement for the CNG O5s at MTA Bus at the end of the order.

Did you see any depot stickers on this bus? It had just recently been transferred from GH to WF Depot. I beleive it had MTA Bus stickers on it when it was running out of GH.
I'm not going to move it to CP on the roster until someone can confirm it actually being there or spots it in CP service.

304 didn't have MTA Bus decals out of GH. And the only reason it went to WF is because for some reason buses have to be transfered to WF before going to KB/GH or leaving the borough. The bronx is the only borough that does that (ex. The CAS 400-500s all went to WF, stayed NIS then went to KB).

Someone posted on another forum 9846 was on the bx15 and Its not that hard to believe. The average bus age at WF is around 8 years which is really low.

GHs 1-300s go to WF for 400s, the 1-300s then go CP for 9800s.

Very odd. If anything I'm more surprised they haven't sent JG's CNG O5's to CP instead of NYCT sending diesel O5's.
What's going on CP is starting to cut back on the CNG fleet or something?
