I like how they put what type of route and the fare in the fronts window. The MTA would never do something like that.

Great photos! Just wondering what engines do the pictured buses have? I'm still not too familar with the San Diego Transit buses except for the models they operate (I also know they bought a batch of 80s Canadian fishbowls that ran until 2000ish). Thanks for any answer :-)

Nice pics! I will try to make it over there August 15th for the Western Transit 50th Anniversary trip. Only $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Goes all day.

Also, what was an airport 2007 E-Z Rider II doing on route 27? I thought that was a San Diego Transit route and from what I understand it goes nowhere near the airport, unless it got extended to the airport like route 992? (BTW those buses came in service at the end of September 2007 and I was there when they were brand new. They are a bit rattley).

The 1400-series C40HFs and the 1500-series C40LFs pictured have DD Series 50G.

The 1800-series and 400-series C40LFs pictures have C Gas Plus IINM.

The Gilligs pictures have either a 6v92 or a S50.

And the ElDorado has probably a B Gas Plus or something...not sure.

1264 was the lone Gillig that had a S50, now relegated to Training purposes. The rest of the Phantoms in the SDT fleet are 6v92's. Also the 1600's have C Gas Plus.

I'm surprised to see the C40s in San Diego Transit paint -- I've only seen them in the old red and blue MTS scheme.

Also, good catch with the SDT Gillig. Those are becoming very rare.

Thanks! The 27 is a Veolia contracted MTS route, as are the airport routes, so the bustitution isn't completely unwarrented. I rode the 9 and 30 today (both on 18XX series C40LFs).

How are the 1800s (2001 models, right)? I have only been on their Gillig 35-footers, E-Z Rider IIs, C40HFs, and Transmarks.

Lucky that you are spending time in San Diego, but you did miss the fact that the RPTA moved their entire bus yard (except the Novas, 60-BRTs, and E-Z Riders) to downtown Tempe today (more on that tomorrow or so).

The 1800s are nice, albeit nothing super exciting. They have the same powertrain, IINM, as the Valley Metro 2001 NABI 40LFW CNGs (Cummins C-Gas Plus/Allison). The low floor section has all forwards facing seats except for the two wheelchair positions (3 seats on either sides of the bus behind the front wheel wells). The low floor section also has what I'll call WMATA like seats (the blue padded seats) with a blue frame. The high floor seats are similar to those found on the C40LFs at Sky Harbor airport or the bulk of the Valley Metro 40LFWs. The bus did well on the short section of I-5 I rode on on route 30.
