I think that some union members forget the purpose of a strike. It is to deprive the company of profit. It is not for people to be left all over the street. So if random buses not connected with ShortLine are moving people, great, because ShortLine isn't moving them for profit.Having said that, it is generally a bad idea to bring in replacement workers. They are usually pressed into service and are not of the quality of the original drivers because there is no time to train them. The passengers learn really quickly that this is the case and it will kill ridership. Not to mention that it is a PR nightmare if something happens and will likely bring in outside forces into the negotiations. According to a bus buddy of mine, arson is at least 10 years in jail. So if a ShortLine bus blows up like the Godfather, the person is going to spend lots of time away from family and friends and he'll never pass a background check again. |
