Yes:Here is what the Bergen Record Online has to say: Short Line employees reject contract, will strike at midnight: JOHN DESANTO/Times Herald-Record May 22, 2008 Short Line bus drivers will strike at midnight, having rejected Coach USA's latest offer. The decision to strike is expected to throw tomorrow's commute into chaos. "The issue is benefits, sick days, personal days," said Rich Olsen, a Short Line driver from Liberty. "They offered us one sick day a year to settle the strike. One sick day. That's not enough." The state Department of Transportation, Metro-North Railroad and NJ Transit will boost service to help Short Line customers get to their jobs in New York City during the strike. Tomorrow (FRI) only, Metro-North will run an extra train from Harriman during the morning rush to alleviate any overcrowding. The train will run only if necessary. No exact departure time has been set. Starting tomorrow and continuing throughout the strike, NJ Transit will operate two extra trains from Suffern during the morning rush. Parking is limited at Suffern but ample capacity exists in NJ Transit’s multi-story garage at the Ramsey/Route 17 station. Starting tomorrow, the DOT will increase shuttle service between the Newburgh park-and-ride on Route 17K to the Metro-North station in Beacon, where parking is scarce. Starting Tuesday, Metro-North will increase ferry service from the Newburgh waterfront to Beacon. “We certainly appreciate the support of our partner agencies,’’ said George Grieve, president of Coach USA/Short Line’s Northern District. Grieve said Coach will be working through the weekend in an attempt to organize as much replacement bus service as possible and urged customers to keep checking the company’s website for updates, www.coachusa.com The Times Herald-Record is following this story all night long and will report more information as it becomes available |
