Exactly.Unfortunately, the way Brooklyn was developed -- historically speaking -- relates to the traffic problems. Northern Brooklyn was heavily developed prior to the 20th Century with narrower streets and very little open space. Southern Brooklyn, particularly south-eastern sections weren't developed until the early part of the 20th Century, well after most transit lines were already established, urgo their lack of direct rapid transit services. This also explains why buses get snagged in traffic in the northern sections of the Borough (narrower streets, with more double-parked cars and poorly-timed traffic lights). And of course this in turn leads to rather spotty bus service to areas south of the Flatbush/Nostrand junction. |
