Posted by W.B. on Sun Dec 22 11:40:10 2024 December 22, 1946 - The Book of Changings of the Guard Manhattan, New York Fifth Avenue Coach Company With the last of the "open-top," rear-entrance double-decker buses about to be retired and new General Motors' single-deck TD-4506 buses entering service, Fifth Avenue Coach announces the conversion of its Route 4 - Fifth Avenue-Fort Washington line to single-deck bus service. Also effective as of this date, FACCo begins institution of the "pay as you enter" system requiring passengers to have fares ready upon boarding said route. December 22, 1963 - The Book of Last Runs Manhattan and Queens, New York Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority (FACO Division) The Jackson Heights bus depot at 76th Street and Northern Boulevard, home to the 15 - Jackson Heights and 16 - Elmhurst Crosstown lines since they began service on July 9, 1925, closes, and the routes' depot assignment changed to the 54th Street garage on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, where they will remain into the 1980's.
