The manner in which the City of New York funded its public transportation systems was that the individual bus companies were made whole for their operating costs, plus profit based in part on service performance. Thus, the fact that a greater portion of the company's revenue came from the farebox, rather than from the city treasury, Was not especially important. The total amount received by the bus company remained the same, whether it was paid at the farebox or not. |
