This was a concern in the era of street-running trolleys, since the tracks were in the middle of the street.Boston still has street-running trolleys, for a whole three-quarters of a mile on the Green Line E from Brigham Circle to Heath Street. The fold-out doors say STOP, and there are also signs at stops saying it's illegal to pass a stopped trolley. But it still happens. This setup is unusual enough in U.S. cities that drivers might not know to be careful for people alighting into the street. Safety islands are a great idea, if there's room. |
