The ritual of Kapporus is a method to remind us of atonement and repentnance. The sins have nothing to due with the chicken. A person should repent and THINK of the chicken who will soon be slaughtered and want a good year that nothing bad will happen to him/her. The chicken is given as charity to the needy to get another mitzva (good deed). Doing it with money will get similar results but it is not the same as knowing what will happen to this chicken. AND we do want G-D to give us a good year. |
