The buses I mentioned are not long gone from service, they only were retired about a year ago.

True NYBS' fleet lasted a lot longer than a NYCT bus did, but let's be fair: NYBS maintance was far superior, but at NYBS you had all express routes that ran at peak for just one trip on the AM and one trip on the PM. NYCT buses had far more daily service hours and mileage than any NYBS bus ever had.

Compare NYCT and MTA bus MCI's today: the local fleet get a lot more daily mileage and abuse than the MCI's on a daily basis. In the non rush, most MCI's are laid up all day, the locals run all day or have a very short down time at the garage before being used again.
