Continuing with our bus roster series, today the first production "Kneeling Buses" are now in service: Flxibles 7500-7659. All depots got them, Flushing got 10, everybody else got 15. This was a chance to see which depot really took good (or bad) care of their buses.

Quick story: "my" depot was Crosstown and we had 7530-7544. In contrast, Staten Island had 7630-7644. Naturally I compared them in my head. Once day I got on an S1 (or R1) at Port Ivory, bus 7630, a bit "newer" than 7530 from XT. It was already badly beat up inside and out and filthy on the inside. Never did ride it tho: b/o gets on and tries to start it: dead as a doornail!

With this assignment, Crosstown became the first depot with an all air-conditioned fleet on paper. They really tried, but there were many failures with the "winged" 1966's. My favorite air conditioned ones were the 6310-6329 series, they really pumped it out!

The 305 buses from the 1960 model year (501-805) are just about retired, with 111 in storage. Herewith the goods:

Fifth Ave.: 3708-3749 (42/'63), 4000-4099 (100/'69), 6936-6956 express (6948 local, 21/'72), 7090-7134 (45/'73), 7545-7559 (15/'75). Total: 223.

Ulmer Park: 3776-3840 (65/'63), 8825-8854 and 8872-8876 (26 express + 9 local, 35/'68), 6090-6139 (50/'71), 6180-6199 express (20/'71), 6271-6309 (39/'72), 7560-7574 (15/'75). Total: 224.

Fresh Pond: 3660-3707 and 3750-3775 (74/'63), 8001-8030 (30/'66), 4100-4157 (58/'69), 6330-6349 (20/'72), 7135-7154 (20/'73), 7575-7589 (15/'75). Total: 217.

Flushing: 2001-2074 (74/'62), 5601-5645 (45/'65), 4442-4455 (14/'70), 6200-6229 (30/'72), 7175-7204 (30/'73), 7590-7599 (10/'75). Total: 203.

Jamaica: 2075-2095 (21/'62), 3885-3950 (66'/63), 4342-4391 (50/'70), 6164-6171 express (8/'71), 7600-7614 (15/'75). Total: 160.

Queens Village: 2096-2175 (80/'62), 5646-5700 (55/'65), 4392-4441 (50/'70), 6172-6179 express (8/'71), 7155-7174 (20/'73), 7615-7629 (15/'75). Total: 228.

Staten Island: 5103-5165 (63/'64), 5701-5790 (90/'65), 8801-8824 and 8855-8871 and 8877-8933 (3 local + 95 express /'68), 4456-4483 (28/'70), 4484-4499 express (16/'70), 6230-6270 (41/'72), 6901-6935 express (35/'72), 7630-7644 (15/'75). Total: 386.

Manhattan: 3601-3659 (59/'63), 8138-8202 (65/'66), 7000-7029 (30/'73), 7645-7659 (15/'75). Total: 169.
