Interesting stuff.

The weekend services that were going to be canned carried more people on the weekend as a group than the illegal S89 carries all week. The S60 should be an on-call Access-A-Ride van on the weekends. It is cheaper to operate that for free than to put a 40 foot bus there. However, the canning of these routes would have saved just $289,000 while shutting down the S89 would save $1,200,000. Then, they could extend the S93 down to the Eltingville Transit Center to pick up the 450 Richmond Avenue limited passengers. Assigning all of those buses to the S93 would produce a far larger ridership gain at much lower cost.

Does anyone now wonder why the MTA never escapes from financial peril?
