I don't think you understand. Let me put forward a scenario for you.

Operator is deadheading on Route Q46. QV driver is paying his respects to Mr. Thomas by displaying a B46 sign. Old lady waiting for a bus sees a B46 blow by her. She calls customer information and reports that bus 64xx blew by her in service on Union Turnpike. Driver is yanked into office.

1) If the driver says that he was "Not In Service", the report will state that 46 was on the sign and he'll be written up for a wrong sign or flagging a passenger.

2) If the driver says that he had a "B46 sign" up, he'll be written up for a wrong sign.

3) If the driver plays dumb, a spotter will be out there to catch him. If they catch him with a "B46 sign" on the street, he could get two writeups and time to think about it.

All that could happen over a sign tribute. I wish I was being farfetched, but our population makes a habit of looking at the route number only. If a M15 said that it was going to Hell, it would have a standing load going there.
