I'll even give you a better one that today would get the bus driver killed. In the 1960's the driver had a bad day and became a little insane. This was when you had to pull the chord to signal to stop and it wasn't silenced after the first pull. Sometimes people would forget and pull it a second time after someone else already pulled it. Apparently this day it was happening quite frequently and the driver was getting a little annoyed so he announced that if anyone pulls it a second time after it was already pulled, he wouldn't stop at all if no one was getting on. So this guy had to get off at Avenue T. He thought the bus driver didn't remember, (remember, no lit up sign to check) so he pulls it a second time just as the driver is approaching the stop. So the driver accelerates again and doesn't stop. He asks why and the driver said because you pulled it twice. The man gets so angry and next time purposely pulls it ten times. Again the stop is passed. For some strange reason, no one has to get on. (Guess there must have been another bus not too far in front of us.) The man continues to ring more than once per block and we continue going. He finally gives in and only rings once. But to his misfortune, someone else rings, so on we go. There is finally only one ring and the man gets off at Avenue K, over a mile from his destination. He probably had to take another bus back. Now imagine if the driver worked for Mr. Softee instead. |
