Surely to spend a lot of money on this beautiful restoration and then install an inappropriate mirror is just not logical. In that era (I was alive and saw them, I don't believe you were) many different styles of mirrors existed; each transit operation specified what type of mirror they wanted. Unless you can prove this wasn't the original mirror, it's best not to say anything.
